How can I view Japanese characters on my computer?

My teacher sends me Japanese lessons through email but the Japanese characters show up as squares, diamonds and ';?';.


I've already done panel%26gt;Regional and Language Options%26gt;Languages tab and clicked on the one for East Asian languages and applied the settings and I've already done the View%26gt;Encoding%26gt;More%26gt;Japanese But my computer would not recognize the Japanese characters my teacher sends me.


Do I have to download more Fonts? If so can you explain how to download them?
